Colorful Cross-Sections of Rock Formations Made Into Sculptural Paintings

After taking a closer look at textbook cross-sections of the Earth’s interior, Laura Moriarty decided to re-create smaller scale models of them.

The result is an intriguing close-up of how each landform of the Earth is formed and looks like.

However, not all of her miniature landforms are scientifically accurate—the U.S.A-based artist also takes a more experimental approach to her work, incorporating both painting and sculptural techniques into her creations.

Scroll down to see how Moriarty marries both art and science in this colorful series.
