The Sleep Habits And Literary Productivity Of Famous Writers

Each of us has our own sleep habits which influence our daily work and routines. Some of us are early risers who feel more productive in the morning while others prefer to get up later and settle down to work as the day progresses.

Maria Popova of Brain Pickings has created an infographic that examines the sleep habits and literary productivity of famous writers like Sylvia Plath, Charles Bukowski, and Simone de Beauvoir. It compares their daily amount of sleep with their creative output and the number of awards they won over the course of their lives.

Though it seems there is a direct correlation between waking up early and a writer’s skills, the chart is meant to be an illuminating look at how the daily routines of each writer affects their work and awards received.
