‘Feminist’ Barbie Illustrations That Accurately Represent Women

Artist Colleen Clark was commissioned by Marie Claire South Africa to create a series of Barbie illustrations that accurately represent women.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Clark explains “I was very inspired by the idea that feminism is as simple as accepting others and yourself unconditionally. I wanted to make the point that ‘Feminist Barbie’ wouldn’t have just one look, style, or culture to her, because feminism should include everyone.”

Her illustrations eschew Barbie’s famously slender figure and tiny waist, opting for tattooed, plus-sized and hijab-wearing girls, showing that beauty comes in all body shapes, sizes and ethnicities.
