In Italy, A ‘Library On Wheels’ Spreads The Love Of Reading To Children

A retired teacher by the name of Antonio La Cava spreads his love of reading to the children in Italy by driving a “library on wheels”.

Every week, La Cava makes a 500-kilometer journey to the villages in the southern Basilicata region, announcing his arrival with an organ. The children enthusiastically flock to his book mobile once he arrives.

This project began in 2003 when the former teacher decided that he could do more to get children to read—he bought a used Ape motorbike and modified it to contain at least 700 books. This “Bibliomotocarro” has made its rounds every since.

What do you think—isn’t this a fun way to spread the love for reading?
