To bring the issues of human rights to light, Ogilvy & Mather London partnered with artistic duo, Coarse (comprising Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk), to create an enlightening campaign for Amnesty International.

The art duo created a total of 30 limited edition ‘Freedom Candles’. Each of these candles are a sculpture that represents violence or injustice.

As the wick of the candle is lit, the wax melts to reveal a different bronze figure that symbolizes the positive change that human rights activism can bring.

The candles were then auctioned on eBay, with funds donated to Amnesty International.

Thomas Schultz-Jagow, Senior Director of Campaigns and Communications at Amnesty International, said “This collaboration with coarse brings together the worlds of art and activism; and we hope that they gain attention from collectors, design fanatics, and Amnesty International supporters alike,”
